Business and Pleasure

On occasions, my husband takes overnight business trips. To prevent loneliness, he often invites me to go along with him. Whenever I discover what city we will be visiting, I immediately start researching it. For instance, I map out landmarks we’ve never seen, restaurants with good reviews, entertainment options, and hotels that look appealing. By the time we get in the car, board the plane, or get on the train, every minute of our trip is already planned out. If your spouse travels frequently for work, consider mixing business with pleasure from time to time. On this blog, you will discover how to make the most of an upcoming business trip.

Questions First-Timers Often Have About Swamp Airboat Rides

Delores Tucker

Riding an airboat through a swamp is quite the thrill and is a great way to see the unique plants and animals that live in these swamp habitats. However, many participants have a few questions leading up to their ride. You'll find answers to those questions below.

How long are swamp airboat rides?

This varies based on the venue. However, most places offer rides that are about 30 minutes long, and also a longer ride option that is an hour or two hours long. This is not an all-day or even a half-day excursion; hopefully that helps as you try to plan your day.

Will there be alligators?

Most swamp areas are home to alligators and crocodiles, and seeing them is a big part of the airboat ride experience. You can usually count on seeing at least one group of them, as the drivers take the boats into areas where they're pretty sure these animals will be. You don't have to worry about danger, though; you'll be safely inside the airboat. Also, the alligators and crocodiles along airboat tour routes tend to be very used to people and are less aggressive than those that are further out in the wild.

What should you wear?

Wear whatever feels comfortable to you, but make sure it's not too loose. When the airboat gets going, there's a lot of wind, and loose clothing tends to blow around. Wear closed-toe shoes for safety reasons. If you wear glasses or sunglasses, make sure they are attached to a strap around your neck so you don't lose them when the airboat is speeding along.

How many people fit on one airboat?

This varies somewhat between tour companies, but the airboats used for swamp tours typically fit between 10 and 15 people. So if you go with a few friends, you can expect others to be put on the airboat with you. Some companies do offer private ride options, although they will cost more.

Do you have to tip the driver?

While it is not required, it is customary to tip your airboat driver and tour guide after the excursion. A few dollars is appropriate; you do not need to tip a full 20% of the ticket cost. For example, if you have a group of two or three, a $10 tip would be appropriate. If you're alone, giving $5 is plenty.

Hopefully you now know a little more and feel more assured about your upcoming airboat swamp tour. You're in for quite an adventure! Learn more about swamp airboat rides today.
