Business and Pleasure

On occasions, my husband takes overnight business trips. To prevent loneliness, he often invites me to go along with him. Whenever I discover what city we will be visiting, I immediately start researching it. For instance, I map out landmarks we’ve never seen, restaurants with good reviews, entertainment options, and hotels that look appealing. By the time we get in the car, board the plane, or get on the train, every minute of our trip is already planned out. If your spouse travels frequently for work, consider mixing business with pleasure from time to time. On this blog, you will discover how to make the most of an upcoming business trip.

Tips For Eliminating Seasickness While Deep Sea Fishing

Delores Tucker

If you are planning to take an epic deep sea fishing adventure this summer but you are afraid you might spend the entire day tossing the contents of your stomach into the ocean, then you will be happy to learn this doesn't have to be your fate. While you can do certain things like watching the horizon instead of the sea to help your body acclimate to the motion of the fishing vessel, there are many other things you can also do to proactively stave off the nasty symptoms of seasickness.

By following each of the following tips, you can prevent spending your special fishing trip vomiting in the water and wishing you were back on the steady ground:

Tip: Avoid Eating the Wrong Foods Before Sailing

One of the main things that will affect how sick you may become at sea is what you eat for breakfast during the hours before sailing. Make no mistake, deep sea fishing day is not one of those days that you want to go out and have a large, greasy breakfast and wash it down with a gallon of coffee. Instead of eggs and bacon for breakfast, you should have some toast, oatmeal, or other mild food in the morning before your fishing trip.

For lunch during your trip, pack some sandwiches, crackers, and lots of water to drink. Your stomach will thank you, and if you do happen to get sick, the crackers and water will help to settle your stomach.

Tip: Wear a Motion Sickness Wrist Band

Many experienced deep sea fishermen wear motion sickness wrist bands and swear they are very effective for eliminating seasickness. These bands press on the acupressure point for nausea that is located on your wrist. You can purchase one of these inexpensive bands at your local pharmacy. Before you get onto the boat simply put the band on your wrist and then wear it like a bracelet while you are out at sea.

Tip: Take an Over-the-Counter Motion Sickness Medication

Finally, if you prepared for your trip as suggested above and you still have an issue with seasickness once you get out on the water, then you can take an over-the-counter oral medication such as Dramamine. Dramamine helps settle your stomach and often completely eliminates the symptoms of motion sickness. Anytime you go deep sea fishing, you should carry a bottle of Dramamine just in case.
