Business and Pleasure

On occasions, my husband takes overnight business trips. To prevent loneliness, he often invites me to go along with him. Whenever I discover what city we will be visiting, I immediately start researching it. For instance, I map out landmarks we’ve never seen, restaurants with good reviews, entertainment options, and hotels that look appealing. By the time we get in the car, board the plane, or get on the train, every minute of our trip is already planned out. If your spouse travels frequently for work, consider mixing business with pleasure from time to time. On this blog, you will discover how to make the most of an upcoming business trip.

Booking Business Travel? 3 Simple, Yet Serious Things Often Forgotten When Planning Business Travel

Delores Tucker

From a quick weekend getaway to a complete vacation package with the family, travel is an important industry in the world today. Of course, traveling for purposes other than leisure is also common. If you are one of the 405 million Americans who travel long distances for work, you may be familiar with packing and the planning process. Unfortunately, even when traveling multiple times per year, there are things you will forget. Using this guide of the most forgotten items when booking business travel, your trip will be more productive and less stressful.

Charger and Other Accessories

In the past, a mobile phone was more of a luxury. Today, smartphones and mobile technology have become a way of life. While grabbing your phone is second nature to most people when leaving the house, be sure to remember to pack a charger for your mobile devices.

If possible, use a combination charger. This ensures you can charge up your battery in the hotel room or airport using a wall outlet. In addition, combination chargers offer USB capabilities. Most vehicles, airports, and hotels offer USB outlets for efficiency and convenience.  If packing other mobile devices, opt for a universal charger that increases the battery power of your tablet, laptop, and smartphone.

If you are traveling outside the United States, consider a converter for items that require power. Most American electrical appliances and devices require 110 volts, but other areas of the world utilize 220 - 240 volts of power. Converters will ensure you can use and charge devices in a safe, effective manner.  Fortunately, most foreign hotels offer at least one converter for their guests, but bringing your own is a smarter option.

Transportation

Booking your flight and hotel is simple. However, many business travelers forget to arrange transportation from the airport to their hotel. While not a complicated fix, the lack of transportation can cost you potential clients, sales, and your productivity. To ensure you efficiently and safely arrive, plan your transportation using an airport taxi service.

While surprising to hear, standard taxicabs are not the only vehicle option with these professional services. Considering the following vehicles are available, there is an option for every budget, need, and comfort level:

  • Town Car or Sedan
  • Executive Sport Utility Vehicles or Stretch SUVs
  • Elegant Limousines in Various Sizes
  • Comfortable Passenger Vans
  • Luxurious Limo Vans

Forgetting to arrange transportation from the airport is a common issue many business travelers make, so be sure to plan to reduce stress. Be sure to check out companies like Southwest Florida Transportation Group, Inc. well in advance of your trip so you can have the most reliable transportation possible.

Hand Sanitizer

With the current Ebola crisis on everyone's minds these days, protecting your health is important, especially when traveling. In most business situations, you will be making close contact with other individuals. Sharing paperwork, interacting on smart boards, and shaking hands are all common ways to transport germs and bacteria. Washing your hands twice per day using warm water and soap is smart, but not always possible when working long hours. Of course, you do not need to wear a respirator mask or full, hooded suit when away from home.

Hand sanitizer is a must-have item when traveling, but you most likely will forget it. Pack a bottle in your luggage and use periodically through the day. Be sure it contains at least 60% alcohol for the most effective sanitization. It is important to note that sanitizer will not completely protect you from Ebola, but it does not hurt, either.

You invest a great deal of time, energy, and passion into your work. While traveling for your profession, spending extra time during the planning process is imperative. Although small and incredibly simple, forgetting these things when away from home and your base office can become serious. Using this guide, your business travel experience will be safe, productive, and stress-free.
